Hi, I am Paul Ndunguru!

Paul Ndunguru, born in 1971 in Bagamoyo, is a highly respected visual artist, performer, and educator from Tanzania. He holds a diploma in visual arts from the Bagamoyo College of Arts and has been actively involved in the Tanzanian art scene for over 26 years. Ndunguru's artistic talents are diverse, as he excels in various mediums such as comic and schoolbook illustration, sculpture, puppetry, singing, and painting.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Ndunguru serves as the executive director for Alama Art and Media Production Ltd, a company that specializes in creative concept development, designing and producing storyboards for television, and printing materials for promotional purposes. Through this role, he has contributed to numerous projects and has made a significant impact on the creative industry in Tanzania.

Ndunguru's artistic achievements have gained recognition both locally and internationally. His works have been exhibited and sold across Asia, the United States, Europe, and Africa. In 2015, he was honored as an EU Year for Development champion, further highlighting his contributions to the arts.

As a member of the Nafasi Art Space in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Ndunguru actively engages with the local art community. He is passionate about using his art to promote social and environmental justice, challenging paradigms and encouraging dialogue. His recent painting exhibition at the Alliance Française emphasized the importance of freedom of information and communication, particularly in a world where certain narratives are often unquestioned.

Ndunguru embraces new technologies in his artistic practice, utilizing digital drawing tablets on a Mac for his work with the Wahapahapa Band and their cartoons. He believes that technology has not left artists behind and welcomes its potential for innovation and creativity.
