Hi, I am Aggrey Mwasha!
Aggrey Mwasha, a talented self-taught artist, hails from the picturesque Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. From a young age, Aggrey displayed a natural inclination towards art, and at the tender age of ten, he began experimenting with painting. Using plants and oaks, he ingeniously created his own vibrant colors, showcasing his resourcefulness and creativity.
Over the years, Aggrey's passion for art grew, and he honed his skills through dedication and practice. His unique style and captivating artwork soon caught the attention of art enthusiasts worldwide. Aggrey's talent has taken him to various countries, including Finland, England, and the United States, where he has participated in numerous prestigious exhibitions.
In 1998, Aggrey achieved a significant milestone in his career when he emerged as the first-place winner of the World Food Day painting competition organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This recognition not only highlighted his exceptional talent but also shed light on important global issues through his art.
Aggrey's artistic prowess also earned him a coveted spot as the sole representative from Tanzania in the second Pan-African Cultural Festival. Held in July 2009 at the International Far of Algeris in Algeria, this festival celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Africa. Aggrey's participation in this esteemed event showcased his art on an international platform, further solidifying his reputation as a distinguished artist.
In addition to his own artistic endeavors, Aggrey had the privilege of working as a curator at the Wasanii Art Centre from 2004 to 2010. This opportunity, facilitated by former ambassadors of the American and Italian embassies, allowed Aggrey to contribute to the promotion and development of the local art scene. His role as a curator not only showcased his expertise but also provided a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent.
Today, Aggrey Mwasha continues to create awe-inspiring artwork from his own studio in Dar es Salaam. His dedication to his craft and his ability to capture the essence of Tanzanian culture and landscapes in his paintings have made him a revered figure in the art world. Aggrey's work serves as a testament to the power of self-expression and the ability of art to transcend boundaries and connect people from different corners of the globe.
