Our exhibition "ungana//connect"

The exhibition that truly connects you with contemporary Tanzanian art.

14.01.2024 – 25.02.2024 | Wed & Fri 15:30 - 18:30, Sun 11:00 - 14:00

Michael Horbach Stiftung | Wormser Str. 23 | Köln

From 14 January to 25 February 2024, Asante Sanaa will be presenting the fascinating world of Tanzanian art in the rooms of the Michael Horbach Foundation. In the scenery of the gallery and studio complex in Cologne's Südstadt district, a unique showcase for contemporary paintings from 2020 to 2023 will unfold.

The diversity of the Tanzanian art scene is presented through the selection of a wide range of styles. The works not only reflect individual perspectives, but also mirror social, political and economic developments that are currently shaping the country.

The mission of Asante Sanaa since its foundation in 2020: to give Tanzanian artists a stage. This extraordinary exhibition in Cologne does just that.

It creates a bridge between cultures and people - art as a mediator between Europe and Africa. 'ungana', translated as 'connect', embodies this message from the heart. Expand your horizons under the motto 'ungana' and connect with Tanzanian culture and our artists.

For over a month, you will have the opportunity to marvel at works of art by 15 selected Tanzanian painters. In addition to well-known names from the Tanzanian art scene such as Haji Chilonga and Evarist Chikawe, the exhibition also includes new faces such as Annah Lot Nkyalu and the expressionist portraitist Mickidad Raymond Said.

Overall, "ungana//connect" emphasises the creativity and diversity of contemporary Tanzanian art. It opens windows to new perspectives and connections, which contributes to strengthening the art scene in Tanzania. The exhibition encourages visitors to look beyond art for connections - be it cultural, emotional or intellectual.

We would be delighted to welcome you to the "ungana//connect" exhibition. In the photo gallery, you can get a rough idea of what awaits you in the exhibition rooms of the Michael Horbach Foundation. You will also find impressions of our vernissage on 14 January.
